Thurrock’s Labour Group has announced councillor John Kent will take control of the party after previously stepping down from the position for the general election.

Mr Kent will replace councillor Jane Pothecary who has been leader of the party since May last year.

It is not the first time Mr Kent has led the party. He stepped down from the position last year so he could concentrate on battling Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price in November’s general election.

Ms Doyle-Price saw her majority rocket from just 345 to a massive 11,482, while Mr Kent’s share of the vote was slashed from 19,535 to 16,313.
