DAILY Echo readers have been having their say on Boris Johnson’s slight easing of the current lockdown measures.

Most readers so far who have responded said last night’s announcement left them confused.

He relaxed his “stay home” slogan to instead tell people to “stay alert.”

Mr Johnson acknowledged he was giving just “the shape of a plan” in his address, and the Government is to publish a 50-page document in Parliament today to fill in the gaps.

We invited readers to let us know their thoughts on the Daily Echo’s Facebook page and on Twitter.

Here are just some of the views shared by readers. If you’d like to have your say, please let us know your opinion in the comments.

1. Personally, as we (like many) don’t have the luxury of a garden, I am very happy about the prospect of going to the beach or similar outdoors space.... however, this has to be combined with common sense. Eg. If I get to the beach and it’s packed with morons who need everything spelled out to them then we will go elsewhere where social distancing can be kept

2. I’m going to stick by my own sensible rules! Keep my business closed, shop for food once a week and walk my dog daily somewhere quiet. Maybe go and see family/friends in a garden in a couple of weeks, maintaining a social distance. I understand my logic more than his!

3. He's wasting his time and paper! The new slogan is green which people will take to mean that we are safe now as the last one was red. Too many people have ignored the so called lockdown so those people will just carry on as usual. There will more gatherings, more parties, more get togethers and therefore more cases and more deaths. We will back on total lockdown in a couple of weeks. Dorset doesn't have as many cases but now Boris has given freedom to travel, more people will come here and bring the virus with them. It is NOT safe but there are more beds available in ICU.

4. Totally confused. Should have stayed in complete lockdown. People haven’t complied with the distance barriers before.now it will be worse than ever god help us.

5. Well if you wanted a disastrous situation you’ve just created one Mr Boris! I think the majority were sticking to the guidelines, and now you’ve just given everybody a reason to continue on and even more so to socialise even more. The weather is turning sunny, more and more people will flock to parks, beaches etc and I can only imagine the capacity of them places will make it even more difficult to stay the distance apart from total strangers. And I can’t see for one minute kids being able to do that, let alone the adults! So I can only hope that it stays below the 1 . Although I have a feeling our NHS etc potentially is about to be overwhelmed. The damage will be done and it will be even longer before we’re back too any sort of normality. I am a Carer out in the community and have no choice but to go to work 50-60 hrs a week! But will be sticking to my own sensible rules and only going out when essential!

6. So I can go and lay on my local beach with hundreds of people that have flocked into my area who I don’t know but I can’t go and see my daughter and sit in her back garden? My friend can go and invite 30 kids into her school classroom but can’t visit her niece and nephew? ...it is madness. Very mixed messages. Here comes the second wave guys!

7. All I want to know is when we can visit family! Also, if work my job is due to start in June, but nurseries aren’t open, what are we meant to do? Can we safely rely on family? Lots of clarity for everything is needed!

8. This is the 7th week of my self isolation, and I intend to do the other 5 regardless of government directives! I’ll use my own common sense and be guided by the death rates, as I think they speak louder than the politicians!

9. I really wish the restrictions had formally continued until 1 June. If people are being told to return to work then every company should be observing social distancing rules in the office and No hot-desking as per gov advice. If you've had the virus and this has been confirmed then you're in a better position to do this but social distancing has not been going on at the GP surgery where I work and I'm now even more anxious about going in as I feel a 2nd wave of this virus is imminent as we’ve relaxed this too soon.

10. Goodness knows when places like my workplace will be allowed to open. Hoping there'll be clarity in the document. Overall, I'm not entirely surprised that the message was such a shambles... it's left people more confused than before. The Government haven't got a clue what they're doing.

11. Not just confusing, but premature with no evidence of having been thought through such that it could/would be deliverable and no indication of any preparedness for the next 3/4 months potential second wave.

12. Opening up now is too early and just means the lock down so far was a waste of time people will read into this that they can meet people go where they like now give it a few weeks and see the death rates soar!

13. Silly decision on schools. Opening up schools should be based on the educational priorities - so year 10, 11, 12 and maybe year 6 at primary. Why send kids in reception who need help being taken to the toilet as first priority?

14. Common Sense ... trouble is not everyone has the ability to use it.. or has it

Currently, eighty per cent of people who responded to the Daily Echo’s poll on Twitter said they thought last night’s announcement was confusing.

While twenty per cent said they thought the latest measures are clear-cut.
