A further seven patients have died at the trust which runs Colchester Hospital after contracting Covid-19, latest figures have shown.

The data, from NHS England, brings the death toll at the East Suffolk and North Essex trust to 282.

Two of the deaths happened on Wednesday, three on Tuesday and one each on Saturday and Friday.

Nick Hulme, Chief Executive for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We can confirm that two patients one in their 80s and one in their 60s, both of whom had underlying health conditions, have sadly passed away at Ipswich Hospital.

"Five patients at Colchester Hospital, two in their 90s and three in their 70s, all of whom had underlying health conditions have sadly passed away.

"They had all tested positive for COVID-19.  

“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ families and loved ones at this difficult time.”

It brings the death toll at Colchester Hospital to 142. 

Across the trusts which serve Essex a further 13 people have died.

Four people have lost their lives at Southend Hospital and one person died at the Mid Essex Hospitals Trust.

Another death was also recorded at Braintree Community Hospital.

A further 383 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 22,432.

Patients were aged between 28 and 100 years old. 41 of the 383 patients (aged between 28 and 96 years old) had no known underlying health condition.
