A further six patients have died at the trust which runs Colchester Hospital after contracting Covid-19, latest figures have shown.

The data, from NHS England, brings the death toll at the East Suffolk and North Essex trust to 275.

Three of the deaths happened on Monday, two on Saturday and one on April 29.

Nick Hulme, Chief Executive for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We can confirm that three patients all in their 80s and all of whom had underlying health conditions, have sadly passed away at Ipswich Hospital.

"Three patients at Colchester Hospital, one in their 100s, one in their 80s and one in their 70s, all of whom had underlying health conditions have sadly passed away. They had all tested positive for COVID-19.  

“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients’ families and loved ones at this difficult time.”

Across the trusts which serve Essex a further 12 people have died.

Two patients lost their lives at Southend and two people at the Mid Essex trust.

Two people have died at St Peter's Hospital in Maldon run by Provide.

One person has also died at Provide's departments at Halstead Hospital.
