RAIL operators will run a reduced timetable in response to the coronavirus pandemic in anticipation of staff self-isolating.

Greater Anglia and c2c operate on a “Sunday service” every day to combat the spread of coronavirus.

For Greater Anglia, there will be additional services at the start and the end of the day.

Most routes will see an hourly service throughout the day, although there will be a half-hourly service between between Southend Victoria and London.

Bosses at c2c have announced three different reduced timetables, from Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays.

Jamie Burles, managing director of Greater Anglia, said: “This reduced timetable reflects the mix of factors affecting train travel in these challenging times. We need to continue to provide a reliable service for those who are working and still need to travel.

“Our first priority will continue to be to do everything we can to protect the safety and wellbeing of our customers, our employees and the communities we serve.”

A c2c spokesman said: “We have changed our regular cleaning regime in both public and staff areas.

“This includes using a disinfectant which is proven to kill the Covid-19 strain of Coronavirus and additional cleaning of the regular touch points on our trains, such as buttons, handrails, and the handgrips on the back of seats.

“If you have an unused refundable day ticket or you no longer need your season ticket, you will no longer need to pay an administration fee.”
