A GYM has launched live streaming workout routines online for people who have taken the decision to self-isolate.

ABC Gym, in Progress Road, Eastwood, has used social media to live-stream instructors doing workouts and exercises on social media several times a day for the past week.

Owner Jerry East said they came up with the idea to ensure members - and other people who are not part of the gym - can get the exercise they need while social distancing measures are in place to combat the spread of coronavirus

The team, which consists of 12 members of staff, full time and self-employed, contracted instructors, have received strong feedback from people.

Mr East, 35, said: “The workouts are about 20 to 30 minutes long and they’re now child friendly.

“We’re having about four new tripods being delivered for my team so we can all continue doing them from our own homes if the almost-inevitable closure of our office happens.

“We have a few contracted staff and they invoice me for class time, and this is a way for them to be still properly processed through the books.

“It’s really great for the morale of the team, and the really great thing is we are finding the community are enjoying it.

“I thought it might be like in normal classes where you get the same few faces, which is always great, but the videos are getting shared on Facebook and Instagram and I’ve had team members coming in showing me how many people and given good feedback.”

Mr East added: “We’re doing this for no reward, we are helping people and that’s what we’re interested in doing.

“We will take the measures to close if we feel we need to. Without our members and without the team, this place is nothing. If it gets to that, we will increase to five classes streamed a day, as well as kids’ classes.”
