COUNCIL tax has been increased by at least three percent in Rochford.

Rochford Council have announced that residents will be hit by a three point six percent increase for the 2020/2021 financial year.

This will mean that residents, in an average band D property, will pay a total bill of £1,880.63.

Essex County Council has also raised its council tax by one point nine per cent, along with a two per cent increase due to the Social Care Levy. 

The Essex Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner has announced a rise of two point nine per cent, while Essex County Fire & Rescue confirmed a one point nine per cent rise.

The leader of Rochford District Council, Mike Steptoe, said: “The budget pressures under which we operate remain significant and this authority continues to look closely at opportunities to make efficiency savings and generate new sources of revenue. 

“Increasing council tax is not a decision we take lightly.

"Rochford District Council remains committed to providing excellent services to our residents and partners.

"With this in mind we are doing all we can to deliver innovative and high-quality services.”
