ALTHOUGH he was impressed with Jimmy Cox’s performance between the sticks in midweek, Basildon United chief Alex Salmon confirmed a more regular shot-stopper will be wearing the goalkeeper’s jersey tomorrow.

The Bees are set to welcome 11th-placed Soham Town Rangers to the Cousins Car Wash Stadium.

While frontman Cox kept a clean sheet as a makeshift goalkeeper in the 1-0 win at Great Wakering Rovers, George Marsh or Clarke Bogard will come into Salmon’s starting line-up this weekend.

“If George does not recover from his injury in time, Clarke will be back with us,” said Basildon boss Salmon.

“Although Jimmy performed well between the sticks, that’s not where I want him to be playing on a regular basis.

“It was just a freak incident at Wakering and the goalkeeper situation will be sorted this weekend.”

Tomorrow’s fixture will be the first time Salmon oversees a home fixture since his reign began.

And Salmon is calling for consistency from his side.

“The boys have now got to regularly perform at the level they did at Wakering and Heybridge,” added Salmon.

“The last thing I want is for us to become an inconsistent team.

“Hopefully the boys will build on the win at Wakering because that is important.

“I’m not a manager who wants to take one step forward and then go two steps back.

“I want us to make constant progress and it would be great to show we are moving in the right direction by winning my first home game in charge.”
