SOUTHEND United youngsters Freddy Eastwood and Sam Brogan are in line to feature when Canvey Island take on Hullbridge Sports in a Thameside Trophy first round tie.

Eastwood and Brogan completed their work experience loan moves to Park Lane on Friday.

While Eastwood - who is enjoying his second spell with the Isthmian North club - started the 4-4 draw with Heybridge Swifts at the weekend, Brogan was an unused substitute and boss Mark Bentley is set to give the teenagers a chance to impress.

“I don’t think we’ve earned the right to take it easy in this competition,” said Bentley.

“We won’t be using it as a training session.

“I certainly want to look at the two Southend boys I’ve brought in.

“Obviously, we know a bit about Fred. He struggled to get into the game a little bit against Heybridge but Sammy has come in as well.

“There will be a few changes but it’s a trophy at the end of the day and it’s a competition we want to do well in.”

Meanwhile, Sports boss Darren Manning is looking for a reaction following a thumping 5-0 defeat to Maldon & Tiptree.

“After Saturday, this game is perfect as we need to get back out there and right some wrongs,” said Manning.

“We really let ourselves down and that is taking nothing a way from a top Maldon side who are by far the best side in this league judging by when we have played them.

“The boys have been set tasks for tonight. I’m looking for them to be completed in a good fashion and for us to start building momentum towards the end of the season.”
