SOUTHEND'S pier will remain shut today as the wind is too dangerous for visitors.
The pier closure, confirmed by Southend Council, in effect since yesterday, is due to the high winds caused by Storm Ciara.
The pier hill lift and the cliff lift will also remain shut today.
Storm Ciara had a devastating affect across South Essex, with part of the roof of Cliffs Pavillion being torn off by the wind on Sunday.
The council, tweeted: "The winds are still very strong, so for safety reasons Southend-on-Sea Pier, the cliff lift and pier hill lift remain closed today.
