A MAN has been arrested after Cliff Lane in Grappenhall was closed by a crash.

The A50 was shut in both directions between Grappenhall Lane and junction 20 of the M6 shortly after 11.45am, with no access to the motorway from the direction of Warrington as a result.

Cheshire Police had earlier received reports of a grey Audi A4 driving erratically through the town at around 11.15am.

This vehicle was then involved in a collision with a Scania lorry near to Howshoots Farm.

The HGV driver suffered minor injuries as a result, while the Audi driver – a 26-year-old man from London – was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving under the influence of drugs.

Cliff Lane remained shut for around two hours before reopening shortly before 1.45pm.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number IML619042, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
