SOUTHEND United manager Sol Campbell has defended his decision to try and introduce a passing style at the Shrimpers.
Blues gifted Oxford United their first two goals in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Roots Hall.
But Campbell still feels his side are capable of making the new tactics work.
“We’ve scored goals against Portsmouth and Wimbledon where we’ve put more than 20 passes together so we’ve shown we can do it,” said Campbell.
“We did gift Oxford two or three goals on Saturday but I know what the players can do.
“I’ve heard people say we should just launch it but if we do that I don’t think we have the players you can really launch it to.
“And if we did that I don’t think it would be us winning the ball.”
