SAM Mantom is set to make his return from injury when Southend United’s under-23 side face Leyton Orient this afternoon.
The 27-year-old midfielder has been out with a hamstring problem since the start of October.
But he is now ready to return to action for today’s Central League Cup clash.
Right-back Jason Demetriou, who has found first team minutes hard to come by in recent weeks, is also expected to feature against the O’s at Boots & Laces along with defender Harry Lennon who remains with the under-23s following a controversial social media recording.
The Shrimpers’ youngsters thrashed MK Dons 5-1 last week.
But Blues coach Craig Fagan is still hoping for an improved performance.
“There’s things to work on from last week and, as a coach, you’re always wanting more from the team and the players,” said Fagan.
“I wasn’t happy with the way we started last week and we also need to make sure when we’re going forward we’re set up correctly defensively because we nearly conceded another goal late on against MK Dons.”
Today’s match kicks off at 1pm.
