COLCHESTER Institute has announced Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust as its new charity of the year.
Fundraising events around the college will be held throughout next year and charity pots will be placed at till points around all three campuses.
The air ambulance saves lives by delivering pre-hospital emergency medical service to the people of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
Staff and students at Colchester Institute are hoping to fundraise even more this year in support of the charity with more than £4,000 being raised for the previous chosen charity, the Royal British Legion.
Jon Rodriguez, head of fundraising at the air ambulance trust, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as Colchester Institute’s Charity of the Year 2019/20.
“Our Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) is provided free of charge, without access to National Lottery funding and with limited support from Government.
“It costs in excess of £750,000 every month to keep the service operational and cover all charitable costs, this would not be possible without the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex.”
