A WARTIME singalong was held to celebrate a care home resident’s 100th birthday.

Marjorie Wood has been a resident at the New Copford Place care home in Colchester for nearly six years.

She celebrated her landmark birthday with care home staff and her family.

Marjorie was born in 1919 and grew up in Tooting, south London.

She was presented with a special centenary birthday card from the Queen by Colchester mayor Nick Cope.

Her birthday celebrations took place at the home run by charity Friends of the Elderly.

The care home’s team arranged for entertainment troupe Air Raid Jive to perform and the group got everyone involved in a wartime singalong.

Marjorie said: “I was in my twenties during the Second World War and have many fond memories of the songs that were around then.

“I particularly like the Lambeth Walk, so it was great this was one of the songs we sang with the entertainers.”

In 1948, Marjorie married Dick Wood and later had two children, Peter and Yvonne.

Marjorie has five grandsons as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

She added: “I used to work in a pharmacy and later a deli before I moved from South London to Witham.

“Since being a resident at the care home, I have made so many new friends and I’m so lucky and fortunate the care home team went to so much trouble and effort to make my 100th birthday so special.

“It’s a day I will never forget.”

Her son Peter and his wife, Jan, were at the party, along with her daughter, Yvonne, and Yvonne’s husband, Simon.

Her grandson David and his wife, Elizabeth, also went along to celebrate the special occasion.
