A SPECIAL hustings event will take place to quiz election candidates on climate issues.

Community groups are hosting Colchester’s first climate hustings for residents to find out what candidates would do to curb the climate crisis if elected.

The hustings will be at Firstsite on Saturday, November 30 ahead of the General Election on December 12.

All prospective candidates have been invited to take part in a question and answer session with the public.

Candidates Mark Goacher (Green), Tina McKay (Lab) and Martin Goss (Lib Dem) have accepted the invitation.

Will Quince (Con) has supposedly declined.

Participants are encouraged to take along their prepared questions about the unfolding climate and ecological crisis.

The event will run from 2pm to 4pm.

Tickets are free and can be booked in advance by searching for Climate Hustings Tickets at www.eventbrite.co.uk.

Earlier this year Colchester Council declared a climate emergency and set up a cross-party task and finish group to prepare an action plan.

Organisations are now putting pressure on Essex County Council to do the same.
