A WOMAN who was battered by a thug wielding a BBQ grill in her own road fears he may attack again after being spared jail.

The 49-year-old victim, who was attacked by Zak Baker, was walking her Jack Russell, Tia, in Buckingham Road, Basildon when she was attacked by him.

Baker had kicked her to the ground, where she fell on her terrified dog, causing both injuries.

Baker then hit her several times with a BBQ grill, resulting in her needing stitches.

The 28-year-old admitted causing actual bodily harm but was spared jail and given a three-year community order and 250 hours of unpaid work.

Speaking to the Echo, his victim said: “The grill caused a deep cut on my right leg and a less deep wound to my left leg and bruises graze to my elbow and bruises to my side. I had to go A&E for my injuries where I had four stitches.

“I have had to go to the doctors about these injuries since as it hadn’t healed as well as it should have after stitches were taken out and I was put on antibiotics and my left leg now has a painful haematoma I am still unable to kneel four weeks later.

“I am paying for taxis to go to the local shops, and my dog Tia is nervous about walking by where it happened, I ended up with a £500 vets bill.

“I am a vulnerable adult with mental health problems; I suffer from bi-polar disorder, PTSD, depression and anxiety.

“I have been feeling suicidal many times over the last few months I have had many welfare checks from emergency services due to worried friends or professionals.

“I am not confident that this charge will be the end of his hate towards me. I know he has been punished but he has been allowed to return to his home.”
