THURROCK Mayor councillor Diane Revell has opened the new residential wing of Grangewater Activity Centre in South Ockendon.

The accomodation will now allow groups to stay overnight.

The Mayor and guests toured the centre and watched students from Beacon Hill School and Ockendon High School use the facilities.

Councillor Revell said: "This is a fantastic facility. The staff work so hard to ensure the children gain the maximum benefit.

Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Education and Children's Services, Mike Revell said: "Young people have the opportunity to enjoy so many outdoor activities in the borough. We have a very bright future."

Outdoor Education Instructor, Tom Adam said: "Having overnight facilities will allow groups to do much more here. It's a great addition to the centre."
