A 14-year-old busker has written a song to raise funds for the homeless, in time for Christmas.

Jacob Reddy, from Copster Green, Blackburn, spent the past few months writing the song, which will be officially released tomorrow.

The St Augustine’s High School student penned the tune, Community Spirit, for the volunteer-led charity of the same name, which helps feed homeless and hungry people in Blackburn and the surrounding areas.

Jacob said: “When I heard about the work volunteers at Community Spirit do and the people they help, I knew I wanted to get involved.

“I love writing music and singing my own songs, so this was the perfect opportunity. Through the song I hope to help those less fortunate than me.”

Imogen Storey and James Duckworth, Owners of Esche Haus Studio, donated the use of their recording studio in Blackburn so Jacob could record the song.

Ms Storey said: “We’re delighted to be part of this brilliant project and we hope the song will raise much needed funds for the group.”

Chair of Community Spirit, Neil Mistry, said he was delighted to learn the song had been named after their organisation.

He said: “Such kindness by a teenage lad is the icing on the cake for us so, on behalf of everyone at Community Spirit, I want to say a big thank you to Jacob and his family for their hard work in pulling this song together.

“We’d also like to say thank you to Imogen and James at Esche Haus Recording Studio for their help and support and we’ll make sure the song is heard across the streets of Blackburn during the colder months as ‘Community Spirit’ becomes our signature tune when we distribute food and warm clothing to street homeless people in the town.”

Jacob can often be seen busking opposite Boots on Castle Street in Clitheroe, raising money for his school charity trip to Kigali, Rwanda, where he will be working with other young people to help educate street children whose families have been affected the Rwandan Genocide.

The song can currently be listened to via Jacob’s YouTube page but will be released for download and streaming via iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music and Spotify.

All proceeds from the song will go to Community Spirit.
