RESIDENTS have slammed a housing company for leaving mounds of rubbish for more than a month.

The huge amount of rubbish has been strewn around the entrances of Poppy Meadows accommodation in Wilkinson Drop, Hadleigh, for the past month.

The situation has gotten so bad that flies, bugs and rats have been reported to be taking refuge within the mess.

One 29-year-old resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had been shut down by both Castle Point Council and Moat Housing, who own the accommodation, whenever the issue was raised.

She said: “The rubbish is not being collected by the council when it should be, it’s been that way for around three weeks now.

“Because of this, the bins are so full up no one can get rubbish into the storage area, so it’s just been left in a horrendous state.

“Moat Housing are saying that it’s absolutely nothing to do with them.

“The council are saying the same thing.

“It’s all been left by the front of bin cupboard. As the cupboard is now completely full, you can’t get in there as rubbish has not been collected, or even touched, by anyone in weeks.

“We’ve had problems like this for months. Now, because there is so much of it, we have vermin running around the rubbish and getting everywhere.”

Photos from the scene at Poppy Meadows, which consists of 19 properties, also show that rubbish has been left around the forecourt area where people park their cars.

The resident added: “It’s just a disgusting place to walk into now.

“No one wants to bring their families here, no one wants to even go near it.

“We shouldn’t have to deal with this but no one is holding their hands up saying they will help.

“It’s a joke.”

A spokesman for Castle Point Council said: “The council has been unable to get access to the bin store to collect residents’ rubbish at Poppy Meadows.

“Moat Housing Association, the management company responsible for the forecourt area outside the bin store, have been asked to arrange for the urgent removal of the rubbish so that the council can get access.”

A spokesman for Moat Housing said: “We regularly clean up the rubbish at Poppy Meadows.

“We are working with residents and Castle Point Council to find a permanent solution to the situation.”
