A GROUP of cyclists will set off on a challenge from Poole in memory of a colleague who passed away at the age of just 39.

Toby Harteveld, who worked for Siemens, died last year after suffering heart failure.

His father, Dietmar Harteveld, who is head of supply chain management in Siemens UK, will take to the saddle along with his colleagues in memory of Toby.

The Siemens UK Big Summer Cycle will see around 60 cyclists ride 800 miles from Poole to Newcastle towards Whitby where Toby's ashes are scattered and down to Manchester in just 10 days.

Participants will set off from the Siemens office in Poole on Wednesday, September 4.

The first leg of the journey will see them ride to Frimley where the Siemens UK headquarters are based, covering 90 miles on the first day.

During the challenge, cyclists will visit 10 of the Siemens sites and locations along the way.

It is hoped the challenge will raise £19,790, which will be split evenly between Mind and the British Heart Foundation.
