CARE home residents are set to enjoy a luxury lifestyle after a £450,000 refurbishment.

Admiral Court Care Home now boasts a cinema, pub, hairdressers and cafe.

There is also a farmhouse kitchen which will encourage residents to get more involved at mealtimes, an indoor potting shed and a therapy room to make the lives of the 60 residents as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

The cinema room has benefitted from the introduction of a £22,000 audio visual package which now includes sports and movies provided by Sky TV.

General Manager Susan Cruse said: “We had a fantastic day at the home’s grand relaunch event.

“The refurbishment will make a huge difference to the residents’ lives at Admiral Court.

“We have new facilities and our existing facilities have been upgraded to enhance choices and opportunities in the home.

“We are proud to have such an amazing environment.”

The care home in Leigh provides residential, dementia, and nursing care, and on Thursday offered tours for 50 inquisitive guests and revealed its new facilities for its 60 residents at an official grand launch event.

It was attended by Southend mayor John Lamb and Miss Essex beauty pageant winner Georgie Goodey.

Mr Lamb spoke at the event which marked the end of the homes eight-month refurbishment.

He was assisted in his efforts by George Pearl, chairman of the Southend Dementia Action Alliance.

The home was also presented with two dementia awards by the head of relationship centred care April Dobson.

The home is a Hallmark Care Homes.

The awards include a dementia friendly award from Southend Council and an in-house award for the quality of dementia care. The hope is the new facilities allow residents to continue to live active and fulfilled lives doing the things they always loved whether it was popping to a pub, pottering around in a shed, cooking in a kitchen or taking a cinema trip.
