A CONCERNED father is demanding action after he claims his daughter’s drink was spiked at a club in Southend.

Police are investigating after Bethany Gray, 18, was on a night out at MooMoo Clubrooms, in Warrior Square, Southend, when she suddenly collapsed and became unresponsive.

Her father, Stuart Gray, rushed to the club where Bethany was being treated by the club’s onsite medics.

The 46-year-old, from Southend, said: “They bought one drink and went straight to a booth and drank it.

“About 20 minutes after, my daughter’s friend said her head fell back and her eyes rolled back in her head and she was completely unresponsive.”

He added: “A&E staff took one look at her and gave her a bed.”

This is the latest in a string of reports about drink-spiking.

A spokesman for MooMoo said: “We are assisting police with their investigation into the allegation of drink spiking. The safety of all our customers is of paramount importance. We have medically trained staff on site and we operate a search policy on the door, in line with police advice.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We received a report at around 12.40am on August 3 that a woman become unwell and collapsed at MooMoos in Southend.

“We have been in contact with the woman and the venue and our investigation remains in its early stages, including reviewing CCTV and awaiting toxicology results.

“Our licensing team is work closely with MooMoos and they have been implemented a number of measures to help ensure people are safe in their establishment.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Southend on 101 quoting crime reference 42/123641/19.”

Councillor Martin Terry, from Southend Council, said: “We have not received any official complaints, but I have spoken directly with the alleged victim’s family - this is a cause for concern for all of us.

"With incidents such as this, one of the options is for the police to consider asking for a review of the licence if they hold sufficient evidence.

"We will support Essex police with any ongoing or future investigations.”

Her father has demanded action.

He said: “I’ve got an 18-year-old daughter who is scared to go out clubbing.

"I’m partly relieved but that’s a whole part of her adulthood she’s going to miss out on because some scum has taken it all away from her.

"This could have been so much worse - something needs to be done."
