Two people have been arrested after a police chase and crash.
The cars crashed at the junction of Kennington Avenue and Church Road Benfleet at about 3pm yesterday.
Witnesses say there was a heavy police presence and the police helicopter were on scene.
One witness said he saw a man and woman in handcuffs and that officers were looking for another person in connection with the incident.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Two people have been arrested after a car failed to stop for officers in Benfleet.
"The blue Ford was spotted at just after 3pm.
"The car was then involved in a collision with an Audi on Kennington Avenue, where an elderly couple suffered minor injuries.
"A 26-year-old man from Southend was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed, driving without insurance, driving without a license, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of cannabis.
"An 18-year-old woman from Benfleet was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed and possession of an offensive weapon.
"Both remain in custody as our enquiries continue."
