A GANG of yobs lured a pizza delivery worker to an address and robbed him.

Police are appealing for information following claims the tactic has been used a number of times.

Domino’s Pizza confirmed a robbery had taken place.

A spokesman said: “We are unable to comment on an open investigation.

“However, we are assisting the police with their enquiries on this matter.”

It is alleged the gang robbed the driver of about £100 worth of food when the unsuspecting Domino’s worker delivered food to a property in St Augustines Avenue, Thorpe Bay.

It is alleged they were violently attacked by the gang of six male youths.

It is

It comes after reports of a string of similar and violent attacks on takeaway delivery workers in and around Shoebury and Thorpe Bay.

Residents have condemned the behaviour.

Rebecca Steele, 33, said: “This is horrendous.

“I can’t understand why anyone would want to do such a horrible thing.

“These people are working hard, long and often anti-social hours, and just doing their jobs.

“I really feel very sorry for them and hope this worker is doing well.

“I think that as a community we must be standing strong against this sort of vile behaviour.”

Bob Mckenzie, 50, said: “We need to sort these kind of incidents out, people should be able to go about their jobs without being attacked.

“And as residents we should not be worried about these sort of incidents.

“I think it could cause concern in the community with residents, especially the elderly being worried about going out.

“This is a sad state of affairs.”

Community leaders have also raised serious concerns about the incident.

Councillor Martin Terry, who has responsibility for community safety on the council, said: “This is absolutely disgraceful.

“People should not be picked on in this way.

“Pizza delivery workers are vulnerable as they are often on their own and carry money with them.

“People should be able to lawfully go about their business without fear of being attacked.

“Robbery is a horrendous type of crime.

“I hope the police are able to get the intelligence to catch these people.”

Essex Police were contacted.
