SHOCKING pictures show the aftermath of a high speed police pursuit where a stolen care flipped over.

The stolen Mini Cooper failed to stop for police on the A127 at roughly 9.15pm on Sunday, sparking the chase.

The car, driven by a 15-year-old girl, attempted to exit the A127 on the sliproad entering the Mayflower Retail Park.

But as it entered, it collided with the roundabout, causing it to take off and flip, landing on its roof.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of a number of charges, including driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

As police approached the vehicle, it emerged that three teenagers were inside, including a 16-year-old boy from Ilford, and one, 16, from Barking.

The car was being driven by a 15-year-old girl from Barking.

Police were on the scene until roughly 1am yesterday morning.

The trio were still in custody as the Echo went to press last night.

Both boys have been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, while the girl has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, theft of a motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

All three were taken to hospital for initial treatment, but none of the injuries are believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “A stolen car failed to stop for police and overturned in Basildon.

“The Mini Cooper was seen on the A127 at about 9.15pm on Sunday July 14 and failed to stop.

“A pursuit was authorised.

“The car left the road near the Mayflower Retail Park and overturned.

“There were two 16-year-old boys and a 15-year-old girl inside the car.

“They were taken to hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.

“The boys – one from Ilford and one from Barking – were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

"The girl, from Barking, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, theft of a motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.”
