CONCORD Rangers are set to enjoy their first road trip of the summer as they take on Romford tomorrow.

Romford are preparing for another season in the Isthmian North having earned a reprieve, thanks to the non-league restructuring, after originally suffering relegation.

And Beach Boys boss Danny Scopes is eager to see how his side will fair after opening pre-season with tough clashes against Millwall and Dagenham & Redbridge.

Scopes said: “It’s a good test, which will be different to what we have had so far.

“We have played Championship and National League sides, whereas this time we’ll be the bigger team.

“I’m expecting us to have more of the ball and that will allow us to work a bit more on our positional play.

“Every game poses a different challenge and that’s what we need.

“We know that, when the new season comes around, there are no easy games in the National League South so this will help in our preparations.”

Romford groundshared with East Thurrock United at Rookery Hill last term, but they are now at Brentwood Town’s home for the upcoming season.

However, tomorrow’s friendly will take place at the Ilford-based Ford Sports & Social Club, with kick-off scheduled for 1pm.

Having taken charge just two months ago, Scopes has overseen a large turnover of players.

But the newly-appointed boss is pleased with his new-look squad.

“We have put together a really good squad and I’m pleased with my options,” added Scopes.

“The players are like sponges because they want to learn and they are continuously asking what they can improve on.

“We’re only three weeks into pre-season, so that is great to see and it’s fantastic to know that each player is striving to be as good as they possibly can be.

“Our squad is pretty close to where it needs to be player-wise.

“We are a little bit light defensively, but I’m pleased with the business we have done so far this season.”
