Works to create a new two-way system in Grays town centre are expected to get underway by the autumn.

Thurrock Council’s plans involve significant changes to Orsett Road to allow two-way traffic between Derby Road and Stanley Road, as well as the upgrading and installation of pedestrian crossings, resurfacing work and various other highways improvements.

Temporary traffic lights will be in use during the works and some weekend road closures will be required, with diversions in place.

During stages of the project there will be traffic management required at the following four junctions:

· Derby Road/Clarence Road

· Clarence Road/Stanley Road

· Derby Road/Orsett Road

· Stanley Road/Orsett Road

Cllr Ben Maney, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “This is a vitally important scheme that will improve traffic flow and provide significant benefits to residents, visitors and businesses in Grays.

“We will do all that we can to keep any disruption during the works to a minimum and road restrictions will be carefully sequenced to minimise the impact on traffic.

“Our work programme is still being finalised but we expect that works will begin by the autumn.

“We will provide further details as soon as they are available.”

Works are expected to be completed before spring 2020.
