A MOTORCYCLIST accused of killing a pedal cyclist in a fatal crash on his 21st birthday has appeared at court in Oxford.

Mitchell Young of North Aston Road, Duns Tew, appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court today on the charge of death by dangerous driving.

It comes after the 21-year-old allegedly caused a crash on the A4260 Banbury Road, near Kidlington, on October 15.

Jurij Odinocenko, of Brookside Court , Woodstock, died when he was struck head-on in the collision at the junction with Sturdy’s Castle pub.

Despite the efforts of paramedics to save his life he died at the scene.

An inquest into the death of the married 63-year-old was scheduled to take place earlier this year on Tuesday, March 5, but was postponed while the Crown Prosecution Service decided whether to bring charges against the motorcyclist.

Now the case has been brought to court there will no longer be an inquest to follow.

But during the initial inquest opening Oxford Coroner Darren Salter revealed a post mortem examination showed the mechanical engineer died of multiple injuries following the crash.

At the time it was also reported that the motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries also and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Mr Young, who is yet to enter a plea for the charge, was brought before Oxford Magistrates Court today for a first hearing.

The motorcyclist spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address from the court dock while the court clerk read out the charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

The case was escalated by magistrates to Oxford Crown Court and Mr Young will next be expected to appear at before the court on Thursday, July 18.

He was granted unconditional bail before his next court date.
