A road remains closed after roadworks overran.

Marks Tey Station Bridge, in North Lane, Marks Tey, was closed from Saturday morning for investigation works.

The road was meant to reopen at 6pm yesterday, Sunday June 16.

But this morning Essex Highways confirmed the road remained closed.

A message said: "Investigation works took place over the weekend, however it was not possible to reopen the road as planned.

"A closure currently remains in place (Monday 17 June) however engineers are working hard to reopen the bridge later today.

"An update will be provided when the road is reopened.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unplanned closure."

The council wants to install safety barriers, known as a vehicle restraint system (VRS), to all four points of the bridge.

Once complete it would reduce the likelihood of a vehicle leaving the carriageway at the bridge.
