NEW licenses could allow open spaces in Maldon to host live music events and sell alcohol all evening.

Maldon District Council have applied for new licenses to cover events between the hours of 9am and 12am.

The licenses would involve allowing the sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment including music and late-night refreshment in areas such as Hythe Quay, Promenade and Riverside Park.

A spokesman for Maldon District Council, said: "The current system means that multiple licences are being used during a single event which can create an additional burden to organisers.

"The new licences may only be used occasionally, particularly in Riverside Park which only sees a very small number of events annually.

"Additionally, the location, frequency, timings, scale of events and the impact on residents will always be considered.

"It is anticipated very few events would need to use the full extent of the permitted times.

"It is hoped that the new licences will support existing and new events for the benefit of local people."
