PINT-SIZED sisters are raising thousands of pounds to help pay for vital cancer treatment for their grandmother.

Olive Heady, aged four, and sister Uma, three, are set to take on a mile-long sponsored walk through Maldon with their friends.

They are raising cash for ‘Nana’ Maxine Toader so she can have regional hyperthermia treatment.

Olive, Uma and mum, Meghan, 30, hope the treatment will help Maxine in her battle with inoperable stage four bowel cancer.

Meghan, of Tenterfield Road, Maldon, said: “My daughters have some friends who will be joining in too.

“All the children will be walking one mile, finishing at Promenade Park in Maldon for a picnic.”

Maxine was diagnosed with cancer in April 2018, when she was living in Spain.

They were initially told it was stage three ovarian cancer, before later finding it was bowel cancer.

After the news, Maxine and her partner moved back to Essex, to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Meghan said: “Throughout her life, Mum has faced various struggles but has always refused to let them beat her.

“This same fierce, unstoppable attitude is still driving her today.

“She has cut out meat, fish, dairy and eggs and eats as much alkaline as possible.

“She takes various supplements which include vitamin C, turmeric, spirulina and also THC and CBD paste.

“These treatments cost a fair bit of money, but they are absolutely vital to her health.”

The family is trying to raise a total of £12,000 to fund the alternative treatment as well as regular doses of vitamin C, which they hope will at least contain the disease.

Olive and Uma’s efforts have raised £2,100 to go towards their grandmother’s treatment.

Meghan has also raised cash for the cause through an Instagram auction in March, which raised £1,000.

She added: “We have done and continue to do what we can between us.

“But my mum is too poorly to work and is unable to claim benefits as she has lived outside of the country.

“She and her other half have been living off of his sole wage which is mostly gone after their rent is paid.”
