Traffic was halted for a shipping container after fell off a lorry, into the road.

The container was dropped in Heybridge Approach, Maldon this morning, and drivers were forced to wait for the container to be moved off the road.

Linda Swash-Gwatkin lives nearby to where the container dropped into the road.

She said: "I heard this great big noise while I was in my lounge.

"I looked out my patio because I thought it was in my garden as the roundabout is at end.

"It frightened the life out of me, the noise was so loud.

"I then ran round to see if everyone was okay, the guys said they were fine and they had it under control.

"There were loads of people directing as it was heavy traffic."

Residents expressed shock and frustration about the incident on the Facebook page, Maldon Juicy Gossip.

One resident said: "Insecure dangerous load, it is lucky no one was hurt."

Nobody was injured during the incident.

The container has since been removed from the road.
