A POLICE probe has been launched after two geese were attacked with a crossbow.

Essex Police have launched an appeal after the two geese were attacked in Ongar.

They were found at the junction Toot Hill Road and Greenstead Road at around 7.10pm on March 23.

They were taken to South Essex Wildlife Hospital, who reported this morning that the male goose had sadly died, but were hopeful about the other goose.

A spokesman said: "We are appealing for information after two geese were attacked, with one dying, after being found injured in Ongar.

"We were called at around 7.10pm on Saturday, March 23, after injured geese were found at the junction Toot Hill Road and Greenstead Road.

"A member of the public called us and kindly drove the birds to nearby vets.

"It was established that they had been shot at with a crossbow."
