A prolific shoplifter has been sent to prison and has been given a three-year criminal behaviour order that bans him from entering intu Lakeside shopping centre.

Shahinor Rahman, 36, unemployed, of no fixed address, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, March 13, where he admitted four counts of theft.

He was jailed for four months, ordered to pay £115 and was handed a criminal behaviour order that bans him from entering the intu Lakeside’s shopping centre and car park as well as Lakeside retail park.

Between 4.20pm and 4.50pm on Monday, February 25, Rahman entered House of Fraser and Superdry at intu Lakeside and put clothes in a bag before leaving without paying.

He went on to steal items from Debenhams on March 8 and March 11 before being arrested.

Police successfully applied for the CBO after discovering Rahman recent shoplifting past.

He has previously convicted on 10 other occasions for shoplifting offences in London between April and November 2018.

Sergeant Ian Howitt, of Lakeside's Community Policing Team, said: “Rahman has a recent history of shoplifting and he has now been convicted for 14 separate offences in just under a year.

“While the majority of these occurred outside our borders, we have no doubts that he will continue this pattern of behaviour once he is out of prison.

“Rahman’s community behaviour order will look to protect the shopping community within intu Lakeside.

“Breaching the order is a criminal offence and Rahman could face a lengthy prison sentence if he fails to abide to its conditions.

“If he is seen breaching the order he will be detained. If you see him in and around intu Lakeside, please call us on 101.”
