This week in Down Memory Lane we travel across Thurrock and enjoy a rare colour photo of Shell Haven station on the Corringham light railway, taken in April 1939.
An Avonside 0-6 OST is coupled to a four-wheel ex London, Tilbury & Southend carriage.
Next up we get to enjoy a snap of the Aveley Home Guard 1942.
The Home Guard was set up to protect the homeland against possible invasion, sometimes these residents were only armed with broomsticks and home made weapons, this photo shows the number 2 platoon.
Then we get to see a picture of West Thurrock CO-OP.
It was opened in London Road in 1900.
This shop had both a grocery and butchery department, note the glass-shaded gas lamps outside the shop.
Lastly, we get to enjoy Stanford-le-Hope High Street looking towards the green. This was taken in 1953.
