Drivers are being asked to pay close attention to road signs after a temporary 40mph speed limit was introduced on the A13.

Thurrock Council is widening a 2.3 mile section of the A13 from two to three lanes in both directions between the A128 (Orsett Cock roundabout) and the A1014 (The Manorway, Stanford-le-Hope) in what is one of the largest local authority-managed road schemes in the country.

To enable works to take place safely at the roadside without having to reduce the number of lanes available, a temporary barrier and narrow lanes have now been installed, along with a temporary 40mph speed limit and average speed cameras.

A temporary 30mph speed limit has also been put in place around the Orsett Cock roundabout and along the A1013 Stanford Road.

All restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of both road workers and the public, and the council is asking road users to drive carefully through the works and pay attention to signage.

Everything possible is being done to ensure that the works are completed in the safest, least disruptive and most efficient way possible.

Once the A13 widening scheme is completed in autumn 2020 there will be a continuous three lane carriageway from the M25 to Stanford-le-Hope, reducing congestion, improving journey times and supporting further economic growth.
