A TEEN racing star is jetting off to California as part of a scholarship scheme.
Emily Linscott, from Langdon Hills, Essex, will fly off to the USA to race at the famous Laguna Seca race track near San Francisco.
It is part of her scholarship award by the Lucas Oil School of Racing and one of America’s leading IndyCar drivers, Pippa Mann.
Emily, a student at St Clere’s School in Stanford-le-Hope, said: "I’ll be racing at the world-famous Laguna Seca, possibly one of the most technical circuits in the world, and I’ll be mentored by Pippa herself, which I’m so excited about, this sort of thing doesn’t happen every day.
"The circuit itself is quite unique. It has a corner called The Corkscrew, which is meant to be quite daunting. The elevation drops, in this one corner alone, between the entry point of the left hander and the exit point of the right, a massive 59 feet, the equivalent or 6 stories, and an incredible 109 feet or 10 stories to the next turn.”
The teen made her International F4 debut, at 15-years-old at the Sepang F1 circuit in Malaysia last November.
The debut race came after just one full season in junior car racing, which she knew was a big step indeed since she’d only ever driven one once, but she acquitted herself exceptionally well, finishing a very creditable seventh place in her two finishes.
