The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds over the next few days.

After the snow and wintry weather, residents in Essex are bracing themselves for windy weather.

People are being advised to expect the worst of the weather from tonight at 10pm until 9am on Thursday morning.

A second yellow weather warning is in place from Friday at 12pm until Saturday at 6pm.

People are being advised to expect some delays to road, rail, air and ferry and some short term loss of power.

The forecast for tonight said: " Cloud soon thickening from the south and west, with outbreaks of rain perhaps spreading northeast towards midnight, locally heavy.

"Stronger winds developing later in the night, especially towards the Wash. Minimum temperature 4 °C."

For Thursday it says: "Residual outbreaks of rain will gradually clear north and east to leave sunny spells and just an isolated shower for the afternoon.

"Strong winds gradually easing, and feeling colder. Maximum temperature 9 °C."

The forecast for Friday and Sunday said: "Friday, becoming wet and windy, but milder.

"Saturday, very windy with scattered blustery showers, feeling colder again. Sunday, considerable uncertainty but perhaps a spell of rain with possible strong winds."
