FRIDAY evening's rush hour turned into a big slowdown as roadworks and accidents took their toll, causing traffic on the M25 and A13 to back up for miles.
Problems began around 5pm because of a broken down lorry on the J30 roundabout of the A13 and motorway. One lane was closed and slow traffic was reported throughout the immediate area.
Things were then compounded because of emergency repairs on M25 anticlockwise at the same junction because an expansion joint in the road had come loose.
Work meant the Dartford Tunnel was being closed intermittently, causing long tailbacks on the south bank on the Thames.
Roadworks on A13 at Stanford-le-Hope then clogged up westbound traffic.
