OVER the past few months the Gazette has published two articles relating to the Gateway Academy in Tilbury's efforts to highlight the issue of intolerance through studying the Holocaust.

The students had the unique experience of meeting Trude Levi an Auschwitz holocaust survivor, who survived the Nazi persecution in Czechoslovakia and was moved to Auschwitz, Poland.

All of her friends and both her parents died at the camp.

In June we repeated the visit to the camp over four days with 16 Year Nine students.

We have discovered that we had a school colleague whose father and his family had been persecuted by the Nazis and only him and his brother survived and moved to Tilbury.

This prompted us to request that anyone in the Thurrock area who has a Holocaust connection themselves or through relatives would share their experiences with the students of the academy.

We have set up a specific email address for recollections or thoughts on our work to be sent directly to the academy at yourthoughts@thegatewayacademy.org.uk
