A GROUP of trainee Norwegian prison officers visited Grays to complete their training and mark the service's centenary.

Every year Norwegian prison officers have to visit England to complete their two years training.

The visits to England have been going on for 30 years.

This year Grays probation are playing host to nine Norwegian officers, who will each make a presentation to their colleagues at the end of their visit.

The visit coincided with the 100 year anniversary of the probation service.

The Norwegian officers played a part in marking the occasion by meeting probation staff and being presented with copies of the centenary magazine.

Essex probation communications manager, Lynne McKay said: "They come here for a week to have a look at the prison and probation service and meet staff.

"At the end of the week they have to do a presentation to their colleagues in English, which is a daunting task."
