A development that has created almost 150 new homes in Maldon is set to be officially opened this month.

Sharpes Meadow is almost ready to begin welcoming new homeowners into the community, after being approved by Maldon District Council in May 2017.

The new community set on the land west of Broad Street Green Road, Heybridge, will consist of 145 properties, ranging from one-bedroom flats to five-bedroom houses.

A spokesman for Maldon District Council, said: “The development will be providing a total of 145 properties of which 58 – 40 per cent – will be affordable and allocated to people in the district currently on the housing register.

“This scheme is being developed by Persimmon and the affordable units will be owned and managed by the Estuary Housing Association who already have a total of 176 affordable units in the district.”

The development is a part of the North Heybridge Garden Suburb.

Plans for the development were approved despite opposition from Heybridge Parish Council and the North Heybridge Residents’ Association.

The development also included an investment of £2.34million into transport infrastructure, a new primary school and improvements to health facilities.

Almost 100 new jobs were created as a result of the development.
