A group of churchgoers hosted their very own version of TV's Strictly Come Dancing.

The very first edition of Strictly Bocking was put on by the Friends of St Mary's Church and A and M Dancing to mark the beginning of the annual Christmas Tree Festival.

Nine couples took part in the competition, held at Bocking Village Hall, and performed a mix of dances including Jive, Rumba and Tango.

A people's vote was held to decide the winners, with Josie and Kerry Cook claiming the glitterball trophy after wowing audiences with a Charleston routine.

A Christmas market was then held in St Mary's Church the following day to also mark the start of the Christmas tree festival, which is held every year to raise cash for the church.

More than 30 trees have been set up for this year's edition, with community groups and schools helping to decorate each one.

Rev Rod Reid, who is the dean of Bocking, said: "Our Christmas tree festival weekend is an absolute highlight for me and many at the church, as well as in the community around us.

"The trees are twinkling away and look utterly fantastic, we hope people will coming and see many of them over the coming weeks as we prepare for Christmas.

"It all started on Friday with Strictly Bocking which was an amazing night in celebration of the BBC show we all love. We even had our very own glitterball suspended from the ceiling!'
