A landowner in Corringham has been fined after failing to comply with a planning notice - to the tune of more than £1,000.

Ricky MacCallum, of Aluric Close, Chadwell St Mary was served a planning contravention notice by the council in November 2017, requesting information about an alleged cesspit installed on his land in Fobbing Road, Corringham.

He failed to complete and return the notice within the required 21 days, however, and has still not done so.

MacCallum was due to face trial at Basildon Magistrates’ Court, but failed to attend and was convicted in his absence.

He was ordered to pay a total of £1,214.83, which includes a fine, costs and a victim surcharge.

Mark Coxshall, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “As the planning authority, we have a duty to ensure that people comply with regulations.

“I hope that this prosecution serves as a warning to anyone else considering breaking the rules by failing to comply with a planning notice.”
