A DRIVER was left in a "potentially serious" condition after a crash took place on the A13 this morning.

The crash involved a car and a lorry. It happened at around 4.30am this morning between A1014 Stanford-Le-Hope turn off and the A176 Five Bells Interchange for Basildon.

This closed the A13 until around 6.15am when the road temporarily reopened. Police then allowed recovery vehicles to clear the crash scene.

All lanes were then reopened after this.

Essex Police have stated: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a parked lorry on the London bound A13 near Corringham at around 4.30am on Tuesday, November 20.

"The driver of the car has been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries.

"The road was closed for a short while but is now open.

"If you have any information about the incident please call us on 101 quoting incident 91 of November 20."

A spokesperson from the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Two ambulances were sent to the A13 near the Stanford-le-Hope bypass this morning shortly before 4.30am this morning, following reports of a road traffic collision.

"A man was transported to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital."
