FOUR members of the South Essex Branch of the Far East Veterans Association recently attended a ceremony at County Hall, Chelmford, where they were awarded the Pigat Jasa Malaysia from the King (Agong) of Malaysia.
This award is given to those who served in Malaysia during the period from its foundation in 1957 when the Malaysian Emergency was still on, until the end of the Indonesian confrontation in 1966.
The medals were presented by Colonel Tajri Alwi, Defence Advisor, Malaysian High Commission, London.
The photograph shows the recipents after the ceremony. From left to right, Ron Huelin from Corringham who served in Malaysia in the Royal Army Service Corp, Kathy Ostler from Grays who served with the Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service at RAF Hospital Changi, Mike Ostler from Grays who served in Sarawak with the Royal Air Force and Keith Dean who was based at RAF Changi, Singapore, with the Royal air Force.
