A SPECIAL school has been launched as a specialist college for sensory and physical needs.
Sponsors, governors and Thurrock Council officials turned out to celebrate Beacon Hill gaining specialist status.
The launch was held at the Erriff Drive-based school in South Ockendon.
Headteacher Richard Milligan, said: "We are very pleased to be able to celebrate our new status with our sponsors, governors and the Local Authority.
"This success follows a brilliant Ofsted Report."
Beacon Hill are one of 13 Special Schools in the country who have achieved specialist status.
The launch included displays of the pupil's work, including a tapestry made in conjunction with Beacon Hill's community partner, The Royal Opera House.
