PICTURES have been released of the filming of a new drama history movie filmed partly at Tilbury Fort.

Peterloo will be released in cinemas tomorrow.

The fort, which is situated right on the north bank of the Thames, and was closed for about 15 weeks from July 19 last year while filming took place on the Peterloo Massacre, directed by award-winning director Mike Leigh.

The film follows how in 1819, British forces charge on a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter's Field in Manchester, which results in the Peterloo Massacre.

A spokesman for Tilbury Fort said on Facebook: "Mike Leigh’s new film Peterloo is out on Friday – who will be going to see it? You might see somewhere familiar if you do.

"These photos were taken at Tilbury Fort during filming last summer and give you a behind-the scenes peek at what’s to come on the big screen."
