A group of youngsters gathered almost 146 gas cannisters during a litter pick in Burnham-on-Crouch.

The litter pick on Thursday October 25 saw a quartet of children come together to pick litter in Burnham town centre as part of an exhibition highlighting the issue of plastic at the Burnham Museum in Coronation Road.

During the pick, 146 gas canisters, a reusable water bottle, a broken chair and almost ten plastic bags of litter were collected by the four children.

One of the organisers of the litter pick, Jennifer Donnelly, said: "The event was actually prompted by the local youngsters, who had attended the series of children's litter pick events we put on in the summer to coincide with an exhibition on the plastic problem myself as part of the Burnham Museum and Katy Fosdike put on.

"The children, aged 11 to 14 have given me a list of areas in the town they want to tackle next.

"They are disappointed at the amount of litter people drop around our town."

Another litter pick is already planned by the group, taking place on Saturday 3 November.

Jennifer added: "I am part of the newly formed Burnham Green Spaces committee, and we will be starting to do these on a regular basis, our next event will coincide with when the green spaces group will be working on the flower beds at the train station in Station Road.

"If people are interested in meeting up to help out with either the litter and leaf picking or their garden, we would welcome the help."

Visitors are welcome to meet the group at the station at 10.30am.
